Christmas 2015: Yes, I survived budgeting!

9:27 PM Cindy 4 Comments

I survived the Christmas holiday! There's many presents, food and err godchildren. Haha. The good thing is I stayed on my target budget so no cray, cray moments for me. Here's the breakdown of my spending that day:

Christmas Food Amount
Bread 45
Onions + Baguio Beans 40
Fish 85
Breast Chicken Half Kilo 70
Spring Onions + Sili 14
Lumpia Wrapper 40
Carrots + Repolyo 48
Canton 60
Jeepney Fare Back & Forth the Wet Market 30
Ham FREE
Cheese Ball FREE
Novellino White Wine FREE
Desserts (Toblerone, Twinkies, Snickers) FREE
Total: 432

Those items labeled as free are either Christmas gift from the office or goodies from friends. Some of the dishes we prepared are stir fry noodles commonly known as pancit, ham, cheese sticks, fish soup for my dad and bread.

Too bad I didn't take a picture of it because I was too hungry munching the goodies. Haha. We only prepare a few dishes during Christmas day because most of my immediate relatives are all based in Cebu.

For my 11 Godchildren plus extras (yung mga hindi ko inaanak), I only spend about 2,172 pesos for gifts and monetary giveaways! I can say that advance planning pretty early help me to achieve this goal. Hehe.

What about you? How did you spend your Christmas day this year 2015? Share your stories at the comment section below. I want to read them!

Life lately: December 2015

9:55 PM Cindy 6 Comments

Hello, viewers and readers of my blog! Yes, I'm still alive and kicking. I became silent here because I needed to handle important stuff like getting our Meralco residential connection done. Luckily, we are in the final phase and hopefully, this Saturday we will have an electricity of our own. I'll blog about my experiences and the process of getting a Meralco residential connection here in my page so stay tuned for that. I will also include how much did I spend and the stress it cost me processing papers for wiring permit at the City Hall. Haha.

I haven't received my 13th-month pay yet, which is a good thing because I will not buy things that I don't need. Especially right now that there's a lot of holiday sale at the mall. Oh, it is so tempting to buy a beautiful dress and make-up but I still have new clothes and lipsticks that I didn't use so I must control the shopping hormones in me! Haha. I heard at the office that our 13-month will be credited to our account tomorrow. So that's hooray!

I'm still experiencing a paper loss right now in the stock market. Out of 7 stocks that I've bought.  Two of them are in green while the other five are in red. I'm still hoping that the latter will eventually turn into green. I'll cross my fingers for that to come true so that I can gain more. So yeah, that's the reason of no new entry posted here. And before I forget, I want to greet all of you an advance Merry Christmas!

What about you? How do you cope up with the Christmas rush lately? What did you buy on your 13-month pay? Share your stories at the comment section below.

Out of Budget: Is this really happening?!

10:03 PM Cindy 6 Comments

Hello! How have you been? As I mentioned on my previous post in which you can read here that I totally ruined my savings. It is kind of frustrating on my part because I have set an amount that I need to accomplish before this year ends.

My spending culprits are: buying lipstick from a warehouse sale, paying for my father's medicine & check up, plus college miscellaneous fees of my youngest sibling. My list of expenditure is crazy and given that situation makes me want to cry in my room like Anna in Frozen. LOL. Joke lang!
I admit that I became lazy and unconscious of my spending because of what have had happened but I need to stay on track for me to have a brighter future. Naks!

My big chunk of purchase item was when I bought an automatic blood pressure for my parents which has a retail price of 7,150 pesos.

I am lucky that I have a Mercury coupon of 357.50 off on the original price. Plus I also earned a 3% rebate from BPI amounting 203.78 pesos, therefore, I only paid 6,588.72 pesos for it. Hooray for couponing! I'm planning to buy a nebulizer soon for my mom who has asthma. But that thing can wait maybe next month. Hehe.

And now is Friday and I can't wait this day to come to an end! What about you? How's your week so far? Feel free to leave a comment below. I’d love to hear your stories!

My First Cash Dividend from EDC

9:46 PM Cindy 8 Comments

This news came to me as a surprise. I was shocked and turned giddy when I read the email that I was given a cash dividend from EDC! Hooray.

Oh my gosh. Though the amount is fairly small, I am still very thankful for this blessing! As I've read too many financial blogs, I can say that I have now experienced having passive income. My money works for me and not the other way around. Hehe.

I've hadn't experience capital appreciation yet because I am still waiting for my stocks to turned green on my portfolio before I bid them goodbye. What about you? Did you receive your cash dividend or stock dividend from your investment? Share your stories below.

Birthday Plans, Savings Update & Passport Appointment!

11:52 PM Cindy 6 Comments

It's now October and what I love about this month is I will be celebrating my birthday on the 20th! Yes, I am getting older but wiser. Haha.

I thank God for all the blessing that He have given me especially the wisdom that I learned through the years. My only wish is that my family and I will have a healthy mind and body. Since this is a financial blog my plan on my special day is to celebrate it with my family. I have no plans of throwing a fabulous party because I will pay for my youngest sibling's tuition fee for the upcoming second semester. Yes, education is my top priority right now. Next year, she'll be graduating from college, and I will be the happiest sissy by that time. Hooray! Ang hirap kayang magpaaral ng college. Huhu. Namumulubi talaga ako kapag may bayaran sa mga project si kapatid!

I bought a new pair of flat shoes! I fell in love with the shoes simplicity and when I tried to wore it-- it is comfortable! The only thing that I hate about the shoe is the price. It is expensive! But that's okay after all this only my second time to buy a new pair of shoes for this year.
I earned a 3% rebates from BPI because of my purchase item. Yahoo.

On the 17th, I have a passport appointment at DFA Alabang. It's my first time to get one and totally clueless of what will the process look like. Hehe.

About my savings, I ruined it! And my stocks are not doing good too. I can see green, but there are more red on my portfolio if you know what I mean. Honestly, I have two rubbish stocks on hold. I want to get rid of them when the right time comes. Of course, I still wish I can gain a little amount like 100 pesos or higher than that so let's see. I try not to keep an eye on my account because it will only give me stress. Haha.

What about you? Do you have any plans for this month of October? How's your saving? Share your comments below.

Sept. 2015: Life Updates, Stocks, Budget Plan & Achievements!

10:24 PM Cindy 6 Comments

Hey, I'm back! Forgive me for my long hiatus here in my blog. I've been busy with work and other stuff at home that's why I haven't posted anything here. While I'm away here are the things that happened in my life.

The majority of my stocks in my portfolio are in red status right now. It means I am experiencing a paper loss, but that's okay. I plan to hold it for months or a year before I sell them. I'm wishing I can gain 10%-15% capital appreciation through my stocks so let's see what will happen.

When it comes to our house budget, I can say that I fail miserably in this one because I only save 18% of my salary. I know it isn't a bad thing, but it makes me sad that I didn't meet my goals. Hopefully, I can achieve 20% savings this end of the month. I'm crossing my fingers for this one!

September marks the beginning of "BER" months. I can now hear Christmas songs in our neighborhood and even at the mall! Filipino's truly loves to celebrate the yuletide season. Hehe. I know it may sound extremely frugal, but I already set a budget for my godchildren on Christmas day. Why am I planning this too early? To avoid overspending and, of course, panic buying.

What I love about this month is the achievement of my boyfriend who successfully passed his licensure exams for registered electrical engineering and master electrician on his first take. As his girlfriend, I am very proud of him. All his hard work paid off.

What about you? What are the good or bad things happened in your life lately this September? How's your financial goals? Feel free to leave your stories below.

Life lately + Savings Update

10:42 PM Cindy 4 Comments

Hello, readers! Sorry, if I've been missing in action here in my blog for I have to two seminars line-up for this month. The first one is the COL Seminar (free) while the other one is Digital Marketing seminar (I paid 200 bucks for this one) which is related to my career right now. The latter event that I attended gave each attendee a certificate and there's a free meal too! I can say it is worth it because I can use the document for my job hunting next year.

For this half month of August 2015, I save more than 20% of my salary and put it into emergency funds. Yay! I also didn't go to the malls even if there's a makeup sale. Heh!

To divert my attention, I clean my closet instead. Oh boy, it was therapeutic! It's unbelievable that I have kept my old clothes way back in high school and college. Haha. Too bad those shirts and skirts won't fit me anymore. I decided to give them to my less fortunate neighbors.

I'm happy with the last two weeks of August 2015 because there's a long weekend due to a holiday that falls on Monday (Aug. 21) and Friday (Aug. 31). Yahoo! It means I can save a small amount of money because there's no work and more relaxation time at home. What about you? Do you have any plans for this upcoming long weekend?

Calculating My Net Worth: August 2015

6:22 PM Cindy 10 Comments

I have seen many financial blogs I frequent to read online publish their net worth. An idea pops out on my head, why not I create an entry on my blog too! I grab a pen and paper and jot down my assets. I did a mental computation for I have only a few cash and property.

The figure is lower than 100K and far behind from other financial blog's net worth that I've read, but I don't mind. In fact, I feel proud of myself for achieving that kind of amount. I am now more inspired to add more and tally it again at the end of this year.

On the other change, I am now torn between opening a BPI Maxisaver or BPI's Save-Up Automatic Savings + Insurance Account. I'll make a decision once I sort things out.

What about you? Did you compute your net worth this month of August 2015? Leave your comment or your blog's link below.

COL Financial Seminar August 2, 2015 + Stock Picks!

10:06 PM Cindy 4 Comments

Last Saturday I attended a seminar at Meralco Theater entitled "COL Financial's 2015 Mid-Year Market Briefing: Shifting Gears". It was my first time to attend the said the event, and I enjoy it a lot!
http://kuripotadventure.blogspot.com/2015/08/col-seminar-august-2-2015.html

I am totally a newbie when it comes to investing and having the opportunity to attend the seminar widens my knowledge about the Philippine stock market. I have a companion that day my officemate Jean. She's also a first-time investor just like me. Hehe. Before we enter on the venue, we are given pen, pamphlet and notepad to jot down notes.

There were five speakers: Mr. Juanis Barredo, Mr. Marvin Fausto, Ms. April Lee Tan, Mr. Edward Lee and Mr. Conrado F. Bate. Base from what I understand, we are in the bull market. It means we are in a rising position unlike other countries such as China and Greece which is in the bear market.
Sorry for the low resolution of pix, I have a dinosaur mobile phone. hehe.
They tackle about the power of peso-cost-averaging in picking stocks as an effective strategy and to diversify the money on investment, savings, or mutual funds. They also warn not to invest everything you have on stocks, it should be 20% of your savings only. Among the two share their stock picks.
April's Stock Picks - Airlines: CEB, Banks: MBT, Properties: SMPH, FLI, ALI & AC, Power: FGEN. I forgot the other stock picks. Huhu. But those who have COL account can read it on the homepage.
After the event, there's a Q&A portion. Some ask about mutual funds, SSI, gossip about LBC and the like. The question that has an impact for me is the 2016 election next year. The speakers said whether Binay, Roxas or other Presidential candidates will win we can still have a positive Philippine stock market. I hope it will happen. So there you have it. I can't wait to attend more seminar of COL.

What about you? Did you attend COL seminar before? Share your experience below.

7 Frugal Hacks that I Do to Save

11:09 PM Cindy 8 Comments

http://kuripotadventure.blogspot.com/2015/08/7-frugal-hacks-that-i-do.html
I don't mind being teased as a cheapskate. My father would call me "Corry" a name he coined for me which means "Kuripot" whenever I mention the lines budgeting or saving money to my mom. I just shrug it off!

My mantra this year is to live below my means so that I can build enough emergency fund quickly. Some of my frugal hacks might be silly and gross to others, but I don't care. Haha. Feel free to read my frugal hacks that I listed below:

1. I bring packed lunch at the office every day. It saves me 75-150 pesos on buying food at the jolly jeep or fast food chain in Makati CBD.

2. I don't buy cologne or perfume because we use fabric conditioner for our clothes at home, and I shower every day. I'm confident that I don't have a funky smell. LOL. Guys, taking a bath is the key to prevent bad odor.

3. We dilute the shampoo with water. We also do this to our dish washing liquid to maximize the usage.

4.  In our house, we use sugar instead of flavor enhancer (MSG/vetsin). I learned it from my former officemate. It is inexpensive and organic too!

5. We save the last part of the laundry water to flush the toilet or clean the bathroom.

6. Instead of riding a UV Express Van (50 pesos fare), I ride a PNR train on my way home. I only paid 10 pesos for my fare, however, when there's a heavy rain or I am not feeling well I ride a UV express instead. Let's say I know when to choose convenience when the weather is bad.

7. We collect empty plastic bottles and papers. We put it in a sack/plastic bag and sell it to a nearby junk shop. Another way to earned additional money!

So that's it for now. Do you have any frugal tips that you want to share? Leave your suggestions in the comments box.

Why I am Ditching Hair Rebond and Color Treatment

10:13 PM Cindy 4 Comments

I have a natural wavy hair, and I admit having them rebonded like many times to achieve a silky straight hair. I first rebonded my hair when I was in my fourth year college until when I was working on my first job. Every December when I received my 13th month pay, you will see me on the salon to get my hair fixed.

Aside from that I also like to color my crowning glory using hair dyes. I often buy two boxes of hair colorant products to dye my hair because I have long and thick hair. But this year I am eager to ditch these hair treatments!

I summed up my expenses and the total amount surprise me with horror. It is too much! I felt like I'm wasting my money down the drain. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against people who love these treatments for their self-beautification. It's okay to do this as long as you can afford it, then go for it! No one will stop you but I am merely speaking for myself and ways to save more from my monthly paycheck.

Saying adieu to hair rebond is easy because I learned to love my natural hair two years ago. While the hardest is giving-up coloring my hair. I have two shallow reasons why it is difficult for me. First, it can lighten my skin, and lastly braids looks appealing if I have a colored hair. I know, I know it's too funny right?!

Thankfully, I am more determine to save this year. I think of it as a little sacrifice to give way to my brighter future. How about you? What are the small or big things you gave up or sacrifice for the sake of saving? Share your opinion below.

My week recently: Stocks, Family Dilemma & Maxisaver

11:48 PM Cindy 6 Comments

Though it's only the third week of July 2015, I can say that the luck is in my favor for this month. I save enough amount for my savings. I am proud of myself too because I am now an investor. I bought two stocks; ABS and Crown last July 7. The first stock is into media while the latter is into industrial. Crown is doing good, but I don't want to sell my shares for now. I admit I am a noob when it comes to PH stock market and needs to learn more about the industry that's why I read more financial blogs, forums, and books now. Aside from that I will be attending a seminar on Aug. 1 regarding "COL 2015 Mid-year market briefing" and I'm so excited about it!

The situation in our house is crazy! My mom wants me to increase the amount of money that I gave to her for our viands. We have an allotted budget of 200 pesos for that daily. We had a long conversation about the issue. I respect her reasons why she demands an increase, but I have to explain to her why it is impossible for me to do it. I told her that we have a separate budget for rice and kitchen essentials (e.g. onions, garlic, seasoning and etc.). I’m glad that after our discussion we're able to resolve the problem

I'm planning to open a maxi saver account on BPI by the end of August 2015. The account is for an emergency fund. I want to have a separate account for my buffer account and emergency fund. I hope I can accomplish it before I turn 26. Wish me luck guys! Before I end this entry, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for visiting and reading my blog. Obtaining 500 visits is overwhelming! Kinikilig pa rin ako ngayon ng dahil dyan.

How many of you here invest on PH stock market? Are you going to COL Mid-year market briefing? Do you also have BPI Maxisaver account? Share your comment below. I want to read them.

What the Heck is Buffer Account?

6:59 PM Cindy 3 Comments

One afternoon, I was busy browsing my Facebook account when I read a post from my friend Jethro (jethrosas.com). He posted something about emergency fund and buffer account. Curious about the meaning of the latter, I sent him a message asking him about it. He quickly replied and explained to me the meaning of buffer account.

As per Jethro, it is a spare money equivalent to my monthly income. If there’s a delay in my salary, I can use my buffer account to pay my bills on time without stressing myself or worst lend money to someone. Of course, the latter scenario is a big no, no.

After our conversation I'm eager to start and save for my buffer account next pay day. I guess I need to extend my shopping banned for two to three months to achieve it. Boo! Oh well I can do this!

I am no expert in this financial field, but I believe if I will start saving now I can have a debt free life and retire early.

What about you? Do you have a buffer account? How much are you willing to save for it? Share your opinion on the comment section below.

Grammar Tools I Use: Grammarly.com & Slickwrite.com

11:27 PM Cindy 4 Comments

I am neither fluent nor perfect crafting an article using The English language. But I am trying to improve it. Thankfully, I have now Grammarly.com and Slickwrite.com as a weapon! These two tools help me a lot to improve my English composition.

Oops, I know this topic is way out of my niche, but you can choose whether you want to read this entry or skip it.

I found out about grammarly.com recently from my boss. He shares the link to our department because he wants us to improve our writing skills. I use this tool for contextual spelling, grammar and punctuations. I am currently using the free version but if I have money I would avail the premium because this tool is wicked! And another tool that I like is Slickwrite.com. I use it to check sentence structure to avoid too many adverbs on sentences. Unlike Grammarly.com, this tool is free to use!

What about you? Do you have weaknesses that you are trying to improve either on writing, savings or other things? Share your opinion on the comment thread below.

Quotes About Financial Freedom

6:53 PM Cindy 0 Comments

I can’t wait for that day of having enough money for my emergency funds. This month I succeeded on setting aside extra money into my savings. Additionally, I didn’t buy make-ups or dresses at the mall. Hooray for me!

My secret is I have a sticky note displayed on my computer I use at work containing some of my favorite financial quotes I found on the web. Therefore every time I logged in on my PC that’s the first thing that I read and before going home. As they say, sharing is caring and because I want you to plan or take a baby step on saving I will post those quotes here.

My apology for my crappy editing skills but I hope you like what I've shared. Do you have financial inspirations or quotes that you would like to share here? Drop your comment below. I want to read them.

How to Transfer Money from Paypal to BPI Account: Easy Guide!

11:56 PM Cindy 141 Comments

I mentioned on my previous post that I used to have a freelance job and earned 4,000+ pesos. For three months I spend my weekends doing the extra job but ended it because my client doesn’t pay me on time. Oh well that's the drawback of being a freelancer.

They send me their payments thru Paypal and a week ago I withdraw my earnings on my BPI ATM card. If you are wandering what are the steps that I did, you can follow these simple steps below. Let's start first on connecting Paypal to BPI account:

1. Log-in to your paypal account; Move your mouse cursor to “Profile” and click the “Add/Edit Bank Account” in the drop down menu.

2. Fill up the needed information’s:
Bank Name: Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI)
Bank Code: 010040018
Account Number: (Your BPI Account Number is the 10 digits at the back of your ATM card.)

When I withdraw my money I put the 16 numbers in front of my BPI ATM card and a representative of the bank called me to confirmed my transaction. They told me that I put the wrong account number instead of the 10 digits at the back of my ATM card. This is a bonus tip for you all.

3. After clicking the “Continue” button, this page should be displayed! Check if the information you entered are correct. If there’s no input error click the “Save” button. Congratulations, you are one step away from withdrawing your funds!

Now that you successfully connect your Paypal to BPI the next step is withdrawing your funds:

1. On your PayPal account page, click “Withdraw” then “Withdraw funds to your bank account”.

2. Enter the amount or the available balance you have in your Paypal account then click "Continue". Review the amount and bank account details to make sure it’s correct. Click the "Withdraw Funds" and you're done!

Note: There’s a deductions from Paypal and BPI; 50 pesos and 150 pesos for the latter.

Isn't it simple?! I hope you follow the steps with ease. If you have any questions leave a comment below and I will do my best to answer it. Hehe.

The Reason Why I Created a New Blog: Kuripot Adventure!

7:20 PM Cindy 4 Comments

You may not know, but I am the owner of cinscortes.blogspot.com; I can say that I am happy writing stuff on the blog until I realized that I have no specific niche. Plus some of the prices of beauty products I critic is a bit expensive! The outcome is it became difficult for me to create an entry having a limited budget to buy for makeup commodities. Then I got ban from Adsense, I took it as a sign for me to find what I want to write online.

The idea came to me like a flash to create a blog that focus on my journey on saving money! The scope of the blog is perfect because it will tackle my personal experiences on dealing with my finances. And I can share our family’s financial dilemma that readers can relate. Places that I plan to go on a tight budget and inform others on earning extra income on the side. With that in mind, I can’t wait to add articles here in my new baby! My former blog will remain active and I will still posting beauty reviews there, but I wish you visit this page from time to time.

How many blogs do you have? Are you still active on those accounts? What is your most favorite blog account you handle? Share the links and blogger experiences at the comment section below.

My 5 Ways of Saving Money & Controlling Impulsive Buying

6:59 PM Cindy 10 Comments

I have been enthusiastic on saving! I’m hoping to reserve 100,000php amount for my emergency fund by the end of 2015. I can say that I am halfway there. But I encounter an unexpected problem, our financial expenses skyrocketed a month ago because of my parent’s arrival from the province. There's also an extra expenditure ruining my budget like I bought a beauty products and few hair accessories! Yes, I gave in to temptations. Haha. I won’t deny that I’m the one to blame why my savings plan is doom. To patch this problem, I lessen my spending and banning myself from shopping for a month. There are also other ways that I did to save money, here are the following:

My family’s Struggle a Year Ago and My Prominence

6:29 PM Cindy 4 Comments

We are five in the family; my father is a former company driver while my mom is a plain house wife. I’m the eldest among my two siblings and our neighbors label us “Tres Maria’s”. My dad quit his job June of 2014 due to pneumonia. Immediately I become the breadwinner and took the responsibility of paying for my youngest sister college education.

I work as a Digital Marketing Specialist on a BPO company in Makati. Despite of unexpected events we are still fortunate that Nina, my second sibling got a job after she finished her school. She’s working as a programmer and it was a big relief for my part. I have companion to shoulder the expenses in the house instead of myself alone.

On July 2014 my mom and dad decided to take a long vacation to Cebu because the latter needs fresh air. We thought it is good for his health to continue his medication there but we’re wrong. His condition worsens from pneumonia to TB. My mom told me that my dad skips taking his prescription drug and hasn't stop drinking alcoholic beverages during their first month at the province. I got mad on them but I don’t want to point fingers on who’s to blame. What my father needs at that moment was an immediate treatment.

Nina and I decided to send them financial support every month. And those are the difficult days because our expenses increase. For three months I did a freelance job to earn extra money. It was an answered prayer because the opportunity came to me when I need it most.

May 2015 my dad completed his medication! He’s feeling better and gaining weight.  Although he still take vitamins and continue his medication for his pneumonia. July 19 they got back here in Manila and we’re living on the same roof again as a complete family!

While my parents are in the province I became a mother for my two siblings for 11 months. Being the eldest I am force to learn how to cook, buy goods on the wet market and haggle on store sellers. I did the budgeting and managing our expenses. It was a tough role for me but I have to endure it for my family. Base from my experience it opens my eyes to increase my saving when it comes to emergency fund; I become wiser when it comes to handling finances and to think of other ways to earn additional income.

I learn that no one will help you when you are on the lowest point of your life but yourself and your family. People tend to forget you when you’re useless to them. Why am I saying this?! Because some of my dad’s close friends turn their back on us when he became penniless! I told myself that I don’t want those people to join my network. So yeah, I became picky on choosing friends. And you should do it the same!

I have so many stories to share here but you might get bore reading a long entry. I’ll save it on another blog post instead. When did you start savings for your future? Do you plan to have an emergency fund? What are the family trials that you and your family surpass together? Share your stories on the comment section below or post the link of your blog entry.
