How to Apply for Meralco Residential Connection

As I promise on my previous post, I will share to you guys how to apply for Meralco residential service connection. If ever you are applying for one then this entry might help you.

The first thing that I did was I prepared these 3 important documents listed below:

1. Photocopy of the lot title
2. Photocopy of one valid ID (I use my unified SSS ID).
3. Meralco application form and fill up the necessary information.

I then went to the nearest Meralco Business center in our area. I applied mine at Meralco's Market, Market Taguig branch. The attendant there is super nice plus there’s no long line because I went there pretty early at 9 in the morning!

The Meralco attendant screened my form and I was given a paper containing a list of requirements that I need to get from our barangay and city hall. I was also given a service application letter and was advised to wait for 2-3 days for their electrician to inspect our house. After the inspection I was given a yellow card like this image below:
1st photo: Meralco's yellow card, top part photo: the final application form to be given by Meralco and our first electricity bill. Apologies for the crappy photo but you can click the image to enlarge so that you can see it clearly.

After handing out the yellow card to me I went to Meralco business center again for verification purposes before I process the wiring permit in our barangay. I shelled out 100php for the baranggay permit before I went to the city hall to process the CFEI.

Processing papers at the city hall has taken me several visitations at the place to complete my requirements. Please note that  you need to bring lots of patience with you if you're processing on the city hall. Anyhow, here are the requirements that I brought there:

1. Photocopy of wiring permit from the barangay
2. Latest RPT (Real Property Tax/Amilyar) well in my case I need to pay in the assessor's office for this one because the last time that we've paid for property tax was in 2013. You will also need to photocopy it. In my case, I photocopied the receipt
3. Photocopy of lot title
4. Photocopy of valid ID
5. Photocopy of the yellow tag from Meralco
6. A payment of 100php for the notary public for electrical connection

The local government electrical engineer inspects our house after 2-3 days. Then he informed me to go to the city hall again to pay for the wiring permit and CFEI. I also submitted a printed picture of our electrical circuit breaker. Picture below is the receipt of the amount I've paid plus the additional 150pesos for the signature of their Professional Electrical Engineer.
I paid 1,848php and 150php for the signature fee of the professional electrical engineer.
Take note: service application is held during Monday-Friday at the Meralco business center excluding Saturday because it is limited to paying-off of bills.

When I got the CFEI from our local municipality I proceeded to the Meralco business center and was advised again to wait 2-7 days for the final inspection.

For the final inspection, the Meralco electrician checked the circuit breaker and wires at our house. After that, I need to go to Meralco business center again to pay for our advance monthly bill. If I remember it correctly I paid around 1,420php for this and then I waited for the Meralco guys to installed the electricity in our house and that's it! It took me a month to process everything but it is a sweet victory at the end!

Over all I shelled out atleast 15,000 pesos for everything because I also bought a circuit breaker, 35 meters extra wire, fees for the wiring permit, jeepney fares, photocopy, meal and etc. Not bad for someone who is a first timer processing Meralco residential connection by herself.

Actually I know someone who can do it for me aka fixer but I need to pay them 25,000 pesos or more for their service fee. I don't have that money that's why I opt to process it by myself and also my family help me too to process the papers when I wasn't able to file a leave on my work. Please note that if you will choose a fixer to do the application for you the additional wires is excluded in their fees that I mentioned above.

The reason behind why I applied for our own Meralco connection

I mentioned here in my previous post which you can read on Life lately: December 2015 about my struggle err stress last month about processing papers for our residential connection at Meralco. Finally December 30th, the guys from Meralco successfully connected our very own sub-meter! Hooray, we can now save up our electricity consumption! Haha.

You might be wondering where do we get our electricity before?! Okay, I will explain it briefly to you. We used to connect to my aunt's electricity line. They have their own Meralco connection and we're like an add-on to them. Do you get me? I hope you do because it is very hard for me to elaborate it furthermore. Haha. Anyhow, we have our own electric meter installed in our house. My auntie would do the reading every month for the number of energy we consume.

The bad side of not having our own electricity connection is that the power rate is higher compared to having one. My auntie gives us 13 pesos - 16 pesos for kilowatt per hour. For example, if we consume 70 kWh multiplied that to 13 PHP per kWh then our electricity bill can cost 910 pesos. The amount is freaking high right?! We only have few appliances at home such as:

  1. 1. tv;
  2. 2. 3 electric fans;
  3. 3. a washing machine which we use once a week;
  4. 4. 5 CFL;
  5. 5. 1 fluorescent light.

Well, I'm totally cool with that kind of set-up until I realized that having our own electrical connection is the right thing to do. So I opt to apply for our very own Meralco connection! Right now I am eager to know how much our total bill will cost me. Hehe.

Please stay tuned for my entry because I will explain the steps and the needed requirement for applying for residential electrical connection. And of course I will also list down the costs.
