My 5 Ways of Saving Money & Controlling Impulsive Buying

I have been enthusiastic on saving! I’m hoping to reserve 100,000php amount for my emergency fund by the end of 2015. I can say that I am halfway there. But I encounter an unexpected problem, our financial expenses skyrocketed a month ago because of my parent’s arrival from the province. There's also an extra expenditure ruining my budget like I bought a beauty products and few hair accessories! Yes, I gave in to temptations. Haha. I won’t deny that I’m the one to blame why my savings plan is doom. To patch this problem, I lessen my spending and banning myself from shopping for a month. There are also other ways that I did to save money, here are the following:

1. This month paycheck, I make sure I set aside of 20% of my salary into savings fund. 70% is for family budget while the remaining 10% is for my entertainment although I might put this one to savings again.

2. I avoid overspending thru writing down the items I will buy and I put a caps lock note “Save, save, save!” at the bottom part. This might be silly but it works on me.

3. I have an excel sheet file, I write down my expenses there on where did my money go. From transportation fares, groceries or snacks I list everything! The benefit of doing this method is I can view the remaining cash or budget that I have or track down if I overspend.

4. I mentioned that impulse buying is my kryptonite on saving! To control my desire to shop I skip going to the mall during pay day. If ever I will go to shopping establishments I bring exact cash and leave my atm cards at home so that I won’t run to the cashier and take everything I fancy.

5. Another tip is doing grocery shopping with full stomach. Skipping meal will result to buying unnecessary food items to put on your cart. Yes, I experience doing this many times and I learned from it.

Do you have any saving tips that works on you? What is your ideal amount of emergency fund? When did you started saving for your future? I would love to read them! Share your comments below.

  1. I find that having a concrete goal (i.e. Bring down mortgage by Php100,000 in 2015) helps me avoid splurging. Because I know my money has somewhere to go plus there's the thrill of being closer to a debt-free life, I don't feel deprived when I don't shop.

Also, I only go to the mall when I need to buy something. And even then, in and out lang ako.

    1. Hello, thanks for dropping by and commenting on my entry! Syempre dapat magset ng amount kung magkano ang gagastusin for my "luho" di pwedeng all out sa pagbili. :)

  2. Hi sis! 100k din ang emergency fund ko pero ise-set aside ko in different banks -- 30k for personal emergency fund, 40k for health emergencies, & another 30k for unexpected family emergencies. Aayusin ko pa lang yan this year, i-segregate ko before the year ends kaya kelangan ko pang maghapit although I give myself a little reward once in a while pag nagpunta ako sa mall, kelangan din kasi minsan para maiwasan ang mapagastos ng malaki pag na feel kong deprive ako. Last year lang din ako nag-ayos ng finances ko at pinipilit ko din ayusin ang financial attitude ng family ko although napakahirap baguhin ng attitude nila :( but hoping mabago ko mindset nila.

Thank you pala for dropping by sa blog ko. :)

    1. Thank you sis! Buti ka pa may side line now kasi wala pa kong extra source of income e. Keep the faith sis at makakaipon din tayo ng desired amount natin for emergency fund at mutual funds. Hehehe.

Nice one cindy! I learned a lot from reading this new blog of yours. :)
